Soda Lake Trail is the best way to see the Lake "close up and personable". It is a flat walk and at the lake there is a ramp walkway with Nature Posting. The walkway is plastic and made of recycled milk jugs. There are 1700 deck boards for a length of 816 feet. It is supported by 190 concrete piers.
At the end of the summer, it is possible to walk out on the dry lake bed but one needs to be very careful because if it is wet, the mud is like quicksand and very sticky. When the lake is dry, walking on the lake bed is like walking on crusted snow. As can be seen in the pictures below, the crust is about 1/2" thick.
