Each
month, I will explain one of my training tips
to correct common behavioral conditions. One of the most important
commands is the "down" and "down stay". This will intercept
many situations which could be harmful to your dog or to another
person. In many cases, a dog will respond to a "down" command before
they respond to a "come" command.
HAND COMMANDS
Hand
commands are important because they represent a second way to
communicate with your dog. If the dog is at a distance, a visual hand
command can be used to instruct the dog especially if the situation is
dangerous to your dog. If your dog is hard of hearing or deaf,
the hand command is a must. Over the next few weeks, I will demonstrate
some of the more useful hand commands.
SIT - Starting with your had down at your side (palm up), bend your elbow so that your arm is horizontal.
